One of the best places in the country for a romantic getaway is in a place I wouldn’t have predicted — Ohio. Specifically, the Cuyahoga National Park located in the Cuyahoga Valley in northeastern Ohio. It can’t be beat for natural beauty, and what could be more romantic than an idyllic nature walk through the dappled shade of a fragrant, verdant forest? Imagine holding hands as you walk down the trail, the love of your life close by your side. See that stream up ahead? A gentleman will help his lady across — and trust me on this: the ladies find that sort of behavior very romantic indeed. And there are more choices for your romantic getaway in Ohio’s Cuyahoga region. Perhaps you’ll be tired after your walk and want to snuggle up together in a comfortable bed at a historic bed and breakfast like the Inn at Brandywine Falls, a structure originally built in 1848. As the name suggests, the six bedrooms look out over a beautiful waterfall. Imagine opening your window in the evening and listening to the rushing river, feeling the spray of the breeze as it carries a little bit of the river upwards to greet you. When you turn aside from the window to smile at the love of your life, you’ll notice the period antique furniture in the room, and when you dine later that evening, the gourmet food at the Inn will set the stage for an evening to remember. As romantic getaways in Ohio go, it can’t be beat! For the slightly more adventurous personality, you might consider the option of camping in a campsite so secluded that you’ll have to hike or take a mountain bike trail to get to it. Talk about the ultimate in privacy and a return to nature. The campsites inside the park are classed as “primitive” camping, meaning they have no modern amenities. That may sound daunting for some of us, but everybody’s different, and I’d wager that there are some couples reading about romantic getaways in Ohio that would regard that sort of environment as a Garden of Eden experience. If your requirements for a romantic getaway in Ohio include a little bit more civilization, though, there are plenty of fully-equipped camping sites just a short drive from the park. And then there’s the historic scenic railway. Imagine sitting alongside your love interest, peering out the windows at the countryside, stealing kisses now and again along the way. The way to where, you ask? Why, to a wine tasting, of course!  The next day you might visit the Hale Farm and Village, a living history museum that will help you feel transported into the past, into a more romantic day and age, as you learn about life on a farm during the nineteenth century.
